DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM (Top)

AARP Driver Safety Program
is the largest classroom driver refresher course specifically
designed for motorists who are 50 and older!
This eight-hour course is taught in two, four-hour sessions
over a two-day period. Preregistration is a must and can be
completed in the Mastick office. There is a $10 per person
fee. Please pay be checks (ONLY) made payable to AARP.
Ask your insurance agent about automobile insurance discounts.

Paratransit Consortium provides transportation to individuals
who are unable to use fixed-route public transportation, such
as AC Transit buses or BART trains, because of a disability
or disabling health condition. Rides are provided for people
who are certified as eligible for Paratransit under the rules
of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

number provides up-to-the-minute details on public transportation

information, trip-planning, airport access, City Car Share,
Trans-Link, FasTrak and more.

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
during the East Bay Paratransit 21-day eligibility processing (Top) |
Limited funding
through City of Alameda Measure B Funds is available to Alameda
residents needing emergency transportation during the 21-day
eligibility-processing period imposed by East Bay Paratransit.
The East Bay Paratransit Consortium provides transportation
to individuals unable to use fixed-route public transportation,
such as AC Transit buses and BART trains, because of a disability
or disabling health condition. If you feel that you may
be eligible for East Bay Paratransit transportation services
and need emergency transportation services due to a disabling
health condition (e.g., dialysis, chemotherapy, radiation therapy)
prior to completion of the 21-day eligibility
processing period, contact Mastick Senior Center at 747-7500.

RETURN TRIP IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM - MRTIP (Top) |
MRTIP is designed to provide a more
responsive system for getting home
after/from medical appointments. The City of Alameda has
contracted with
Friendly Transportation to provide transportation services after/from
medical
appointments.
Complimentary vouchers are provided to certified Alameda East
Bay Paratransit participants. The program is made available
through City of Alameda Measure B funding. For more information,

OF ALAMEDA PARATRANSIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (Top) |
The City of
Alameda Paratransit Scholarship Program (sponsored by City of
Alameda Measure B funding) is available to assist individuals
with transportation
expenses. A limit of $60 in matching funds per family
is available each fiscal year, as funding is available.
Eligible candidates must be Alameda residents, certified Paratransit
riders, and met the very low income requirements. Applications
are available in the Mastick office, or by calling 747-7506.

COUNTY WHEELCHAIR BREAKDOWN SERVICE (Top) |
|
Alameda
County Wheelchair Breakdown Service, funded through Measure
B, provides transportation countywide to people in wheelchairs
in the event of a mechanical breakdown. The program
will also pick up a stranded wheelchair
if someone is taken to the hospital in an emergency.

| The Alameda
Service Center serves as an entry point for any Alamedan needing
basic services, eviction prevention, or other emergency assistance.
In addition to providing prompt referral for assistance, the
Red Cross itself provides food, rent assistance, utility bill
assistance, childcare vouchers, and case management services
to those in danger of becoming homeless.

FEDERAL & STATE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS FOR

Council on the Aging has created BenefitsCheckUp to assist
those who wish to have information regarding benefits they
or their family members may be eligible for. Programs that
assist with housing, employment, prescription drug costs,
and utility bills are included.

SERVICE (Top)

|
Bay Area Community Services (BACS) prepares the noon meal
served Monday - Friday at Mastick Senior Center. Individuals
60 plus are encouraged to donate $2.25
per meal. Members, guests or companions under age 60 who wish
to participate
are requested to donate $4.25 per meal.
Lunch Reservation per BACS are requested weekly and no longer
accepted daily.

BAG PROGRAM (Top)

| Mercy Care
Center's Brown Bag Program collects and distributes donated
food to 1,500 low-income seniors twice a month at 12 sites
in Alameda County. Mastick is the designated site for the
city of Alameda.
Eligible candidates must be 60 or older,
with a gross monthly income of $1,096 for a single person
and $2,192 for families of two or greater. Membership must
be renewed annually. An annual voluntary contribution of $10.00
is appreciated at registration.
Brown Bag distributions are on the 1st
and 3rd Thursday of the month between
9:00 - 10:00 am in Mastick's Dining Room 1. Members must have
transportation and
be present to pick up their bag of groceries.
All applicants must provide identification
and proof of income at the time of registration.

| The Alameda
Food Bank is a private nonprofit organization, providing nutritious
food at no cost to low-income residents of the City of Alameda.
The monthly food distribution program includes one bag of
groceries, one bag of produce, item(s) from the freezer list,
peanut butter, powdered milk, and various other items.

REGISTRY PROGRAM (Top)

| The Disaster
Registry Program designed by the City of Alameda Disaster
Preparedness Office is available to Alameda residents with
special needs that wish to be contacted after an earthquake
or other major disaster. The City of Alameda Fire Department
or Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers will
contact interested residents after a major disaster to determine
whether medical attention or other assistance is required.
Information submitted on the Disaster Registry Program Application,
Consent Form, and Vulnerability Checklist will be shared with
authorized personnel ONLY. For more information regarding

FRIENDLY VISITORS - AFV (Top)

| AFV, a companion
program to Alameda Meals on Wheels (AMOW), provides
companionship to seniors and homebound Alameda residents.
AFV volunteers are matched with interested homebound neighbors
to provide
friendship, conversation over a cup of coffee or tea, exchange
stories, share
common interests/hobbies, have a few laughs, offer telephone
reassurance,
connect Alamedans with needed community resources, while bringing
joy and
satisfaction to both parties.

HOME SUPPORT SERVICES - IHSS (Top)
|
| IHSS assists
eligible disabled individuals of all ages, including seniors,
to remain safely in their own homes with independence and
dignity. Home care workers assist with cooking, housecleaning
and shopping. They can also help with personal care (bathing
and dressing).

INSURANCE ASSISTANCE (Top)
|
| The Health
Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) provides
counselors to assist people who may have questions and/or
problems with: Medicare (Parts A&B), Medicare billing
and claims, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, HMO's and Long
Term Care Insurance.
Counselors are state registered, unbiased
sources of information, trained in problem solving regarding
most areas of Medicare and health insurance for those 65 and
older, or on Medicare through disability. Counselors are available
by appointment. Please call

Management Assistance Program (MMAP) is sponsored by Bay Area

MMAP assists low income and disabled
seniors with balancing their checkbook and reconciling bank
statements, if needed.
Volunteers are insured by AARP and have
completed the MMAP training program.

Tele-Care Program offers a daily reassurance telephone call

per year.

| Alameda County
Social Services Agency (APS) "investigates and evaluates
complaints of abuse or neglect." They also offer
crisis intervention and case work services.

| PROPERTY
TAX POSTPONEMENT (Top)

|
The State Controller's Office administers the Property Tax
Postponement Program
which enables homeowners to postpone payment of their property
taxes.
To qualify, a homeowner must:
- be at least 62 years of age, blind
or disabled
- possess 20% equity in the property
which they own & occupy as the principal place of residence
- have a total household income of
$ 31,500 (2006)
The postponed property tax must be repaid when the homeowner
moves, the
home is sold, the homeowner dies, title passes to an ineligible
person, or
senior liens become delinquent.

REHABILITATION PROGRAMS (Top)
|
| The City of
Alameda sponsors several rehabilitation programs providing
loans, grants, and/or technical assistance to homeowners.
Assistance is available to develop or conserve housing stock
for low and moderate income residents, create new affordable
rental units in existing vacant or underutilized structures,
correct code deficiencies, or perform minor emergency home
repairs (i.e., grab bars).

| ENERGY
BILL ASSISTANCE (Top)
|
| Low-income
Alamedan households can receive assistance with their utility
bills through two different programs administered by the Red
Cross:
- The EASE Program assists low-income Alamedans in paying
current or overdue Alameda Power & Telecom (AP&T)
electricity bills. Maximum assistance is $200, and may be
accessed every three years, though waivers may be available
in the event of illness or other crisis.
Through the Energy Assistance Program, Alameda households
can have an AP&T representative visit their home to
perform an energy audit. Qualifying households may
receive free energy-efficient light bulbs, assistance
purchasing energy efficient appliances including refrigerators
and other energy conservation assistance. Low-income
participants may also receive up to 25% off their energy
bill.
- The REACH program, administered by the Salvation Army
through the Red Cross, helps low income Alameda residents
with PG&E gas bills.

| RENT
REVIEW ADVISORY COMMITTEE - RRAC (Top)
|
| Alameda renters
who receive notice of a substantial rent increase may request
review and mediation by the RRAC.
Once a complaint is received, staff
may try to resolve the issue through discussion with the tenant
and landlord. If resolution is not possible, the tenant and
landlord are invited to discuss their views in front of the
RRAC, which then makes recommendations to tenants and landlords.
Participation is voluntary and recommendations
are non-binding. The committee has successfully mediated more
than 225 rental increase cases.

AND HOMEOWNER REFUND PROGRAM (Top)

| California
residents who are U.S. citizens & designated aliens, 62
years of age or
older, blind, or disabled, with a total household income of
$42,770 (2006) or less
are eligible for the State of California's Renter or Homeowner
Assistance Program.
Renters must pay monthly rent of $50 or greater. Persons
residing in tax-exempt properties are not eligible.
The filing period begins July 1. Applications are often

household batteries (i.e., AAA, AA, C, D or 9-volt) can no

deposited in your gray solid waste cart. Mastick Senior Center
now accepts
household batteries.
Deposit batteries in the Battery Recycling Cart located in
the Mastick Office on
Monday through Friday between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Alameda County Industries (ACI) gladly accepts household batteries
at their office
on 2307 Blanding Avenue, Suite B, weekdays between 7:00 a.m.

TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE (Top)

During February through April 15, AARP Tax Assistance Program
volunteers are
available to provide free tax preparation services to low
and middle income individuals

LICENSE SCHEDULE (Top)

|
The City of Alameda requires that all bicycles traveling city
streets be licensed. To
obtain a bicycle license, visit your neighborhood fire station,
Monday through Friday,
between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm or Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am
and 1:00 pm.
The fee is $5 per bicycle.

TO RECOVERY (Top)

Road to Recovery is a program offered by the American Cancer
Society to provide
free transportation to individuals with cancer-related medical
appointments. Volunteer
drivers bring individuals with cancer who are unable to drive
themselves, to and from
medical treatment facilities, providing a friendly, supportive,
and reliable presence.

OF ALAMEDA EXPANDED PARATRANSIT PROGRAM (Top)

|
The City of Alameda Expanded Paratransit Program/Taxi Program
is designed to
supplement and complement the services provided by East Bay
Paratransit (EBP).
The program offers transportation opportunities for seniors,
as well as those with
disabilities.
The City of Alameda has contracted with Friendly Transportation
to provide these
services using both sedans and lift-equipped vans. Friendly
Transportation is
currently licensed to provide trips throughout Alameda County
and many other
Bay Area locations. Services may include the following:
- Supplemental Taxi Service - This service is available
to Alameda residents who
are certified to use EBP service and provides transportation
for Alameda
residents living outside of the EBP service area (i.e.,
areas of Bay Farm Island),
need to return home from a medical appointment (MRTIP),
or need
transportation to or from a critical medical appointment
(i.e., dialysis,
chemotherapy, etc.) during the EBP 21-day application processing
period.
- Premium Taxi Service - This service is open to EBP customers,
as well as
seniors who are 70+, without a CA Driver’s License;
or 75+, whether or not you have a disability.
